Feeling more fatigued lately?

Have itchy eyes?

Coughing? Sneezing?

Sinus headaches?

Every year it seems like allergies get worse. This year, I had the worst reaction yet, chest burning, tightness and so much trouble breathing, I took myself to the emergency room to rule out a heart issue.

When the ER doc told me all my tests were normal and there was nothing wrong with my heart, I asked what these intense symptoms could be from, he responded with this question, “Have you been coughing lately from allergies?”

I happened to have a coughing fit the night before when our window was open, bingo!

I started my allergy supplements, incorporated the tips below and started doing the exercise in the video below every morning. Within days I felt normal again.

I found out the next day that one of my husband’s friends was suffering with the same symptoms and calming his reaction with a steroid inhaler.

Many of my clients are complaining of sinus pressure, drippy noses and coughs.

So why is this year so brutal?

“Climate change and the pandemic are playing a huge role.

Year over year, we’re finding climate change is a major factor in worsening symptoms for spring and fall pollen seasons,’ said Kenneth Mendez, the CEO and president of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

The rising temps and increasing CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere are making pollen seasons heavier and longer. Allergy season is now 10 days longer than it was in 1990, and trees, grass and weeds are producing 21% more pollen. More pollen means more runny noses, watery eyes and itchy throats.

There’s another theory that could help explain why people may be experiencing worse allergies after lockdown: Some experts believe being exposed to allergens like pollen over time can help you build up tolerance. If you take away the exposure, the tolerance wanes. More research is needed to determine if this could be the case, though.” – HuffPost.com

This might be true, but I see The Pandemic and lockdown as part of the cause for another reason.

A theme in my client sessions over the last few months has been emotional stress about re-integration.

Many people are afraid of losing their newfound freedom and autonomy.

As we re-integrate there are a lot of factors to consider and to manage.

If your life changed in a positive way, how do you maintain the aspects of your new life that you appreciate?

As things open up, are you feeling pressure to do things you may not want to do?

What feels safe?

When we are navigating all these questions and feeling stress or pressure for an extended period about the unknown, it can tax the same meridians that also help our bodies detox.

Your Spleen, Kidney and Liver Meridians energize these organs, which help filter your blood.

From an emotional standpoint, your Spleen Meridian helps you metabolize emotions, enabling you to assimilate into new situations easier.

Your Liver and Kidney Meridians emotionally can help you navigate change with greater ease, courage and confidence when they are in balance.

This past year has been one with many blessings for me with the birth of my son, but it was also stressful navigating the health issues that arose after my husband and son had Covid.

As we have been getting back to normal in my household, I realized just how physically and emotionally tired I was from the whole experience.

My central nervous system and mainly Spleen Meridian needed some extra energy and attention.

The last exercise in the video below was a life changer for me. I did it in the morning, before I got out of bed, and it opened my chest, cleared my head and rejuvenated my energy.

You can download and print the Exercise Resource Sheet I created for you here and have it ready by your bed to do after you press snooze for a calmer and more energized start to your day.

Yes! Calm energy is the awesome effect of this exercise!

And there are also some exercises to alleviate sinus pressure too!

And keep scrolling down for more tips on how to limit allergen exposure and some useful remedies.

And please share this with anyone you know who is suffering.

This solved my issues in just a few days.

And try these commonsense tips to limit your exposure:

  1. Clean your home more often to pick up the extra dust, pollen, and other airborne household allergens and make sure your vacuum filter is a HEPA filter. You actually could be stirring up pollen versus filtering it out of your home without one.
  2. Keep your windows closed.
  3. Change your clothes and shower when you get home to remove pollen from your person. Clear your nasal passages of allergens and irritants with a neti pot or my favorite a Neil Med Sinus Rinse.  Clear it off and out of your system, so you aren’t exposing yourself, as you try to rest.
  4. Wear shades. Sunglasses can keep pollen out of your eyes. Continue to wear a mask. This helped me a lot! My chest was feeling continually better, then I had a setback, and realized it was after I had lunch outside. The next few days, I wore a mask even while exercising outside, and I continued to improve.
  5. Avoid exercising outdoors or wait until the evening. The pollen count tends to be highest in the morning and ragweed worst midday.
  6. Notice if your allergy symptoms get worse after eating. If they do, take an inventory of what you just ate, and try eliminating one of the more common inflammatory foods. I would try dairy, gluten or sugar first, and see if you notice a difference.

Now for Natural Remedies That Work!

I am always pleasantly surprised when things like this work!

  1. Inhaling Lemon Oil, then rubbing it on the sinus points in this free exercise has given me instant relief and helped me breathe again! While the acupressure exercise in this same video immediately relieves my sinus pressure.
  2. Vitamin C is a well-known immune-booster and 2000mg a day can lower histamine levels.
  3. Add ginger to your juice or make fresh ginger tea by peeling and boiling ginger in water. Ginger is a natural antihistamine! Add local raw honey for a further immune booster and to help your body begin to build up your immunity to local pollen.
  4. Drink a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in 8-10oz of water to reap the benefits of this anti-inflammatory and antibacterial wonder water!

Much love,

  1. Dear Laura,

Thank you so much for sharing your story and energy tools with us. I also went to the emergency room because of allergies and a feeling I could not breathe. When I read your story, I immediately felt empathy. I would like information about anxiety and panic attacks. In my experience I feel a tightening in my throat area besides the rapid heart beats, and overwhelming fear. My body is over reacting to everything. I appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks!
    Regards,
    Carmen

Hey Carmen–I suggest trying out one of my many videos on Youtube like “EFT Tapping to Relieve Overwhelm, Stress and Anxiety – Energy Hacks from Lara Riggio” or go to my channel and look at any of my videos on stress/anxiety. My go-to exercise is to sit in the cross posture and take deep breaths. It turns off fight or flight mode. I hope this helps! X, L
