What You Gain From Letting Go

Sometimes you don’t realize how tightly you’ve been holding on until the moment you finally let go.

Sometimes you don’t even know you are holding your breath until you exhale.

It doesn’t have to take you being totally drained or getting sick or injured to allow yourself to relax.

What if you tried it with me right now.

Rub your temples. Take three slow, deep breaths.

This is your moment to let go.

Nature is already modeling it for you.

The sun slips away earlier, inviting you to rest.

The leaves surrender their vibrant colors in a final, breathtaking display, proof that letting go can be stunning, natural, sacred.

The cold nudges you inward, toward warmth, reflection, and reset.

What if you allowed yourself to follow nature’s lead?

As you rub your temples and breathe deeply, notice any stress or anxiety in your body. Breathe into those areas and see if you can let go of the tension associated with them as you exhale.

Letting go doesn’t just create space, it recenters you. As you let go, you gain:

  • Presence
  • Clarity about what matters
  • Possibility

You have lived so much this year. You have done so much.

Instead of pushing through the exhaustion, pause and hold this Large Intestine Point on the web of your hands, as you ponder:

  • What worked?
  • What didn’t?
  • What habits or beliefs have weighed you down more than they’ve lifted you?
  • What effort, responsibilities, or emotional baggage can you finally set down?

In the Chinese Medicine Five Element system, Fall, the Metal season, is the time to release what no longer supports you and to reconnect with what inspires you.

Your body even offers a metaphor: Air is drawn into the lungs through a process called inspiration; Large Intestine releases what is waste. When either process is blocked, your physical and emotional system becomes constipated. Inspiration is replaced with heaviness.

It’s an inner congestion, a backlog of old expectations and beliefs. But just like clearing the body’s waste restores vitality, clearing emotional waste restores possibility.

So during this seasonal transition and Retrograde Parade, pause often.

Rub your temples, then hold the web of your hand to let go and to gain presence.

Slow down and notice what gives you joy, peace or inspiration.

These are the energies that sustain you.

So much love,
