Maybe you are already feeling it?

Mercury Retrograde began last Friday.

Schedule shifting? A lot?!

EVERYTHING taking longer than it should!

Technical issues?

Trouble sleeping or having crazy dreams?

Mercury Retrograde is known to affect communication, travel, technology, and your sleep.

Apparently…

“Each planet governs different parts of the body, and in the case of Mercury, it’s associated with our nervous system, among other things.

It goes without saying that anyone with an unsettled nervous system is going to have a tough time relaxing into a good night’s sleep. And on top of that, our minds may be working overtime during Mercury retro to make sense of all the scrambled information. As we find ourselves reuniting with people from the past, reassessing memories, and revising certain areas of our life, all this “revision” can seep into our sleep—and our dreams.”

Mercury Retrograde is a time period that usually pushes us to review, reprogram, and re-organize our lives in ways that could change things for the better.

One of my favorite astrologers, CHANI says…

“Be prepared to be humble and to be corrected and to be made aware of what is inefficient, ineffective or just faulty.

If we can think of Mercury retrogrades as that time where we are being granted a moment to course correct for the betterment of our lives and everything in it, then maybe it’s a little less personal.

It’s some kind of going back, remembering what’s important to you, remembering what has meaning for you, remembering the journey that you’re on and why you’re on it, and retrieving that kind of deeper sense of connection.”

So please be kind and gentle with yourself through the beginning of April (Mercury stations direct on April 7th and is in its Post-Shadow phase through the end of the month) and see this as a message from the Universe to…

SLOW WAY DOWN, and listen to your heart.

Pay attention to what matters.

Take time to consult your inner wisdom before you:

  • Commit to anything
  • Speak or write back
  • Move projects forward
  • Make plans
  • Sign any contracts
  • Get really pissed off or annoyed

Give yourself more space and time to…

Know and be sure of what you want.

Be sure all your choices are aligned with your heart. When contemplating any decision, let your body be your guide. Check-in with it – scan your throat, neck, stomach, and back for tightness. If your throat feels constricted, this may be your body’s way of telling you that you may not be expressing something important. If your stomach or gut feels tense, you may not be honoring something you want by making a certain decision.

Rushing into something that doesn’t feel right to avoid pressure or conflict may cause bigger problems later, especially during Mercury Retrograde.

You can easily give yourself more time to decide by saying, “I will get back to you tomorrow or next week about this” (or whenever it’s convenient for you).

You can politely decline by:

  1. Showing appreciation for the other’s point of view or effort.
  2. Declining the offer.
  3. Giving appreciation, encouragement, or support.

“Awe! I am so honored you asked. I am unable to make it. Sounds like such a good time — have a blast! Can’t wait to hear about it!”

Figure out what you want to say and how you want to convey it with consideration and grace.

Be conscious of what and how you are communicating. During this time, communication tends to go awry. Take the extra time to be clear, reiterate, follow up, and don’t jump to conclusions if you don’t hear back from someone. Be aware that others may be more frustrated than usual, so give yourself some time to think through your responses and see where another person is coming from before you react. Think about what actions and words best convey what you want from a big-picture standpoint versus what you feel in the moment. How could you inspire and enroll another person in what you ideally see happening in the future? Speak from your heart with love instead of lack.

WRITE STUFF DOWN, BACKUP YOUR FILES, and REORGANIZE.

Mental clarity tends to be challenged during Mercury Retrograde. So making lists and organizing your thoughts by writing them down somewhere can take pressure off the need to remember it all. Backing up files will save you a lot of grief if Mercury affects your technology. Also, think about what systems could make your life easier with technology. Automated deadline and appointment reminders are easy to set up and can save scheduling errors and mishaps, especially during this retrograde period.

Give yourself more time to get places with greater ease and less pressure.

This may mean scheduling less or meeting people virtually instead of in person. Set aside extra time for any travel. This retrograde is known for travel delays of all kinds. By doing less, you will have more. Poise yourself for peace.

And try this exercise before you go to sleep at night to calm your central nervous system, so you can have a more restful, rejuvenating night’s sleep.

And be sure to download the pdf instructions here. I suggest printing them and having them at your bedside to help you drift off at bedtime or in the middle of the night if needed 😉

And, if you dream, be curious about what your subconscious mind might be trying to convey to you.

Journal about the content of your dreams.

From a Jungian dream work perspective, everyone and everything in the dream is you, meaning every image in the dream is acting as a symbol of you, as an aspect of you.

“We see things not as they are, but as we are.” — Anais Nin

How do you work with this? First, record your dream taking note of the people and symbols. It is also helpful to identify the archetypes at play. For example, if there is a girl in your dream, is she a Friend, Shadow, Feminine or Exotic archetype or any of the many others?

Now that you have the images/symbols and archetypes, start with the most potent one, whatever brings up the most energy and emotion.

Next, assume that this person is a reflection of an aspect of you. From this perspective, you can use the archetype and the qualities she possesses in the dream. If it is a Friend archetype, then the qualities may point to qualities that you desire to have. The context of the dream may then reveal some clues as to how to go about that. If it is a Shadow archetype you are focused on, then perhaps your subconscious has projected qualities of yourself that you need to develop or your fears onto the dream image so that you can finally face them. If you have a strong aversion to a character in your dream, it is likely that there is a part of yourself that you are strongly denying or fighting. Again, the rest of the dream can give you information as to how to handle the projection.

By acting as one of those funny mirrors at the carnival, our dreams do just that, they mirror different aspects of ourselves back to us so that we can have some fun and have a heart to heart with ourselves. They give us the opportunity to look in our own lives from the outside, in.”
