Finding Peace and Connection Now

Heavy is how the last two weeks have felt.

The continued loss of life to violence…Ukraine, Buffalo, Uvalde, and now, Tulsa.

Our society is erupting.

It is hard not to be affected by it.

Feeling disturbed after hearing about Tulsa yesterday morning, I headed with my dog to the river.

As we walked through the city on our way to the water, I was getting more and more agitated.

The peace I felt with fewer people out on weekend mornings wasn’t there, and everyone was anxiously and frenetically scurrying about.

“Doesn’t anyone care about what is happening to our humanity?” I thought.

When I finally got to the river, I went right up to the edge of the pier and hung over the railing to be closer to the water.

As I looked down, watched and listened to the water as it hit the rocks, I involuntarily took a huge breath, then a sigh of relief.

Quiet tears came down my face, my pent up grief was released, and I felt touched, emotionally moved, and grateful to feel connected again…not alone.

I stood there staring at the water, trying to breathe in this powerful moment of oneness, so it wouldn’t slip away.

The reality is, bad things are happening.

You can’t control it, but you can acknowledge how you are feeling and be responsible for your own feelings and the energy you exude.

When it feels like the world is out of control, I have found peace and grounding connecting to this power greater than myself.

You might call this a Higher Power-Source, The Universe, Spirit, or God.

Nature tends to be a conduit for this energy for me.

While there was chaos in Tulsa, I was able to feel peace at the river.

While there has been so much loss, there is still beauty.

While I felt agitated, angry, and blaming on my way to the river, I now had a full heart and smiled at several people along the way home, hoping I could share this feeling.

We are One With All That Is, and that truth is present in science, as we are made of the same molecular stuff found on the earth.

We can affect each other energetically and emotionally.

So I invite you to allow the Universe to touch, inspire, and support you.

Here’s a start–Play this short video and think this Star Wars inspired mantra:

“I am One with this Force.
(of nature)
This Force is in me.”

See how your body reacts to watching this, I immediately exhale. It can be so grounding.

Would love to hear about what you feel, write back and let me know 😉

And share this with anyone with whom it might resonate and bring peace. 🙏❤️: https://bit.ly/LR-PeaceNow

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

  1. Lara,
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful moment.
Over my lifetime, I have spent many hours overlooking a rushing river, releasing the pain and suffering that I was feeling for myself, and others who were going through horrific times.
Miles away, you sense our grief, and send this uplifting virtual energy of release filled with peace.❤️

    Lara,
Thank you for the lovely video and the beautiful poem. We are all totally overwhelmed with grief and lack of hope. Grounding is what we need, even if for a few moments. My mind is tired. We yearn for a life of peace, and we will have to settle for tiny bits at a time. And at least we can have those.

  3. Thank you Lara. Thank you for taking the time to walk to the river, so that you could share this video with us. It made me feel calmer and think that there’s something else out there than where I’m just sitting right now. I needed this!
